Every year, 400,000 pregnant women in the US take antidepressants, which might harm a developing baby's brain.

According to a study, taking antidepressants during pregnancy or while nursing can harm a baby's developing brain and raise the likelihood that they would experience mental health issues later in life.

Prozac, commonly referred to as fluoxetine, raises serotonin levels in the brain, which improves mood. However, researchers have found that this may have an impact on a child's growing prefrontal cortex.

Additionally, they discovered that the medication can enter the breast milk of recent mothers who use it and then feed it to their infants.

According to research, every year in the US, between 300,000 and 400,000 children are exposed to SSRIs during pregnancy.

We are the first to present experimental evidence of the direct effect of serotonin on the growing prefrontal cortex when fluoxetine is administered during pregnancy, according to Professor Won Chan Oh.
